Description: The UnicarTo project is part of a broader journey called #UnitoGo#Food#Lab, which aims to contribute to shared knowledge about the food habits of Turin's university community as well as territorial responses to these needs and the relationship between food and the city. Through the project, about 120 food places have been identified in the area around the Luigi Einaudi Campus and Palazzo Nuovo (both UniTO sites) in the city of Turin. These are both places for the sale and consumption of food in the immediate vicinity of the two hubs of reference, confirming the great importance of the area in responding to a primary need such as food (especially places characterized by cheap prices and speed of service), and places used for the consumption of food prepared at home, from which it is clear that there is a widespread need for spaces dedicated to this type of use of university space.
Location: The project is developed in the city of Turin (IT).
Period: April – May 2018
Partners: Greenoffice Unito (IT), Associazione Italiana Insegnanti di Geografia (IT), Atlante del Cibo di Torino Metropolitana (IT), Dipartimenti di Culture Politica e Società e di Informatica – Università degli Studi di Torino (IT).
Users contribution description: A participatory mapping exercise conducted through FirstLife, a civic social networking platform developed by UniTO, involved 200 students and allowed them to identify all the places where food was consumed or purchased for the five weekdays they attended the relevant university by filling out a form associated with the map.
