Description: “Toponomastica femminile (Tf)” was born on facebook in January 2012 and formed into an association in 2014 with the intention of restoring voice and visibility to women who have contributed, in all fields, to improving society. The research group, made up of over three hundred members and ten thousand fb sympathizers, publishes articles and data on each individual territory and urges institutions to ensure that streets, squares, gardens and urban spaces in the broadest sense are dedicated to women. Indeed, from the national toponymy census conducted by the group, it appears that the average number of streets named after women ranges from 3 to 5 percent (mostly madonnas and saints), while that of streets dedicated to men is around 40 percent. From the observation of this gap came the many initiatives aimed at both schools and the entire citizenry, through competitions and training courses, photographic and documentary exhibitions, conventions and conferences, performances and literary salons, tourist itineraries from a gender perspective and publications. Location: The project is developed in the city of Turin (IT). Period: 2021-ongoing Partners: Associazione Toponomastica femminile (IT), Dipartimento di Informatica – Università degli Studi di Torino (IT). Users contribution description: Through the Firstlife open source mapping platform, users can map the places and urban spaces in Turin named after female figures. Streets, squares, gardens, etc. named after women have been geo-referenced on the map, each of which corresponds to a card, posted on the interactive bulletin board, with a brief biography of the figure they are named after, where it is possible to contribute comments, discussions, additions and even participate in surveys. https://toponomasticafemminile.beta.firstlife.org/
